Jesse Obremski (he/him), a native Japanese-American individual born and raised in New York, is an artist, educator, choreographer, director, singer, arts supporter, and advocate.

He started training at The Ailey School and later graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School (2012). In 2016, Obremski graduated from The Juilliard School, under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts. He has received additional training at The School at Jacob’s Pillow, and multiple years at The Ailey School, Earl Mosley’s Institute of the Arts (EMIA), and Springboard Danse Montréal. Obremski is an Eagle Scout Rank recipient (2010), a Father Fame Awardee (2012), the recipient of the 2016 Jadin Wong Dance Award, administered by the Asian American Arts Alliance, and a "Dancer to Watch" by Interview En L'air (2017), and Dance Magazine’s March 2019 Dancer “On The Rise”. He has been featured in Dance Mogul Magazine (2014), The Dance Enthusiast (2018, 2019), Dance Magazine (2019, 2021), The Juilliard Journal (2019), The Broadway World (2019), presented in The New York Times (2020-2022), and featured in Terese Capucilli's film Lawrence ‘Reed’ Hansen: The Sacrosanct Accompanist. He is a lighting designer (notably for Gibney Company and Rena Butler’s dance film, Dream Scenarium, in 2020) and stage manager for multiple events and various arts organizations. Obremski founded and directs Obremski/Works, a contemporary dance company based in New York City, in 2018, and OUR PATHS, a Gibney Company Moving Toward Justice Fellowship addressing the cultivation of communal empathy, in 2020. Obremski is also the Associate Executive Director of Earl Mosley’s Diversity of Dance (since 2022), after serving on its board for four years, and was on Dance/NYC’s Junior Committee’s Executive Committee (2021-2022). He enjoys photography, film production, singing, arts administration, stagecraft, and cooking. 

Concert Performance

Jesse has had the pleasure to perform with Kate Weare Company, Brian Brooks Moving Company, Wilder Project, RudduR Dance, SEAS Dance, DaretoCreate Dance Theatre, Janice Rosario and Company, Zest Collective, dancecandy, Peter Stathas Dance, Gallim Dance, WHITE WAVE Dance Company has been a company member with the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company (2014-2016), Smashworks Dance (2016-2018), Limón Dance Company Principal and Soloist (2016-2019), and is currently a company member with Diversity of Dance (2015-present), Buglisi Dance Theatre (2016-present), Helen Simoneau Danse (2022-present), Gibney Company (guest artist from 2018-2019 and Artistic Associate from 2019-2024), and currently with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (2024-present).

Throughout his experiences, Jesse has had the honor of performing renowned works by choreographers such as Alvin Ailey, Robert Battle, Adam Barruch, Stijn Celis, Nacho Duato, Sharon Eyal, Johan Inger, Martha Graham (principal role), Johan Inger, José Limón (ensemble, soloist, and principal roles), Lar Lubovitch, Ohad Naharin, Crystal Pite, Ted Shawn (selected for the reconstruction via Jacob’s Pillow), Paul Taylor (principal role), among others and new creations by Kyle Abraham, MADBOOTS, Stefanie Batten Bland, Brian Brooks, Camille A. Brown, Rena Butler, Mark Caserta, Peter Chu, Jasmine Ellis, Vincent Hardy, Francesca Harper, Rennie Harris, Loni Landon, Virginie Mécène, Fredrick Earl Mosley, Alan Lucien Oyen, Shamel Pitts, Cindy Salgado, Gustavo Ramirez Sansano, Sonya Tayeh, Kate Weare, and Yue Yin, among others.

Jesse has performed at various venues including The Joyce Theater, BAM Fisher, The White House for President Obama, Carnegie Hall, Kaatsbaan International Center, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Apollo Theater, Jacob's Pillow Ted Shawn TheatreVancouver International Dance FestivalAmerican Dance Festival, Chicago Dancing Festival, and The Olympic’s FINA World Masters Championships 2019.

Commercial performance

Jesse has performed in the following musical productions at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High SchoolA Chorus Line (Dancer), Hairspray (Brad, Dance Captain), and Guys and Dolls (Lead Dancer, Dance Captain). He has also been a part of the musical production of Blueprint Specials (Dancer) on top of the Intrepid MuseumJesse has also participated in The Broadway Experience and has vocally trained with Badiene Magaziner and Claudia Dumschat.

Jesse has been a leading vocalist of The Church of Transfiguration's Men and Boys Choir since 2002, with choral direction by Claudia Dumschat. With the choir, he has performed as the "Page" in Amahl and the Night Visitors and alongside The Gateway Chamber Orchestra. He has had a variety of solo and principal roles in a plethora of languages and dialects.

Jesse has been featured in Julia Discenza's film, Living-Room (2015)Meredith Rainey Dance's film, S.kin (2016), its sequel, S.kin to SKIN (2017), and in Zion Dance Project's film, ALTAR (2017). All were created and filmed at Earl Mosley's Institute of the Arts. He was also featured in DaretoCreate Dance Theatre's film, Membering You (2016) and VesselsMoves' film, Human (To be published).
